Kahnuj Titanium plant

The Kahnuj Titanium plant is located in the southeast of Kerman province, 25 kilometers from the Kahnuj-Bandar Abbas road. This plant consists of three parts: mine, crusher area, and processing.

The total area of the stone mine is estimated to be 16 square kilometers with a potential reserve of 370 million tons, which began open-pit mining in 2023 using drilling and blasting methods. The amount of grade control drilling performed is 24,000 meters, and the amount of exploratory drilling is 6,000 meters.

In the crusher area, the ore is crushed by jaw, gyratory, and cone crushers to reduce the particle size from a maximum of 1100 mm to less than 15 mm.

In the processing unit, to achieve the desired degree of liberation, the crusher output is further ground in a ball mill to 250 microns, and gravity, magnetic, and electrical upgrading processes are carried out to increase the concentrate grade. From a 5.5% titanium dioxide feed, 46% titanium dioxide ilmenite concentrate with a capacity of 130,000 tons per year is produced as the main product, along with 50,000 tons per year of titanomagnetic as a by-product.

The main product, Kahnuj titanium concentrate, is used as a feedstock for the production of white pigment as a coloring agent for use in the paint, cosmetics, and other industries, as well as the production of titanium metal due to its low density and high strength for use in alloy, aerospace, military, and reactor applications.
